Noor loves letters the way some children love sweets.

She traces them slowly with her finger — the curve of a "ج", the dot under a "ب" — as if each one were a small drawing. Her grandfather taught her that every letter has a sound, and every sound can become a word, and every word can become a story.

"Words are like seeds," he told her. "Plant them, and gardens grow."

Now Noor writes little notes and hides them around the house for her family to find.
