Yesemi

Yesemi dances before she even knows the music has started.

Her feet just know. A clap, a turn, the swish of a red dress — and she is gone, somewhere between Morocco and the old gardens of Andalusia. She loves the Spanish words that sound like little songs: "mariposa", "estrella", "corazón".

Her grandmother told her that long ago, Arabic, Spanish, and music all lived together in one bright city. "You carry that city in you," she said.

Yesemi believes every language has its own rhythm. Once you feel it, you can never forget.
